Quick Overview

You only need a few pieces to play solo comfortably. This starter kit keeps it simple and flexible so you can grow as you go.

Dice & Randomizers#

Start with what you have: a single die, a small set, or a digital roller. Card draws and coin flips work great too. The key is having a way to ask questions and let chance nudge the story.

Journal / Logging#

Use a notebook or notes app to track scenes, characters, and changes. Keep it short—just 2–4 sentences each scene. Try our Session Log template for a ready-to-go structure.

Oracles#

Oracles answer questions like “Does this go well?” or “What appears next?” Browse oracles and prompt journals to find tools that match your style. New to oracles? Read the Beginner’s Guide to Oracles.

Scene Loop#

Run a simple loop: state a goal, play forward, consult oracles when unsure, resolve with your system, then journal what changed and note the next hook.

Next Steps#

Explore solo-friendly systems and keep refining your kit with focused tools. When you want more structure, try light emulators or system-agnostic journals.
